The disqualification petition came up for hearing before the Speaker, after which both the respondents — Kamat and Lobo — sought additional time to file their replies. The Speaker, while refusing to grant any further time, posted the matter for final arguments on Friday.  The disqualification plea against Kamat and Lobo was filed by Goa Pradesh Congress Committee President Amit Patkar in July last year for conspiring to split the Congress Legislative Party and for voluntarily giving up membership of the party.

Speaking to mediapersons, Patkar said that the respondents wanted additional time, which we strongly opposed and the Speaker also upheld our objection. “We pointed out to the Speaker that as per law, the disqualification petition has to be decided within three months. However, there has already been much delay in the matter,” he said.
