MARGAO: The public hearing for Coastal Zone Management Plan (CZMP) held on Thursday has resulted in a major split amongst the social groups fighting against the plan and the way public hearing has been conducted. A group, led by Abhijit Prabhudesai and others, has criticised speakers who attended the public hearing in the late hours of July 8.
On Friday (July 9) it was noticed that nearly 60 speakers gathered at the venue in order to take part in the public hearing. However, they were shocked to see that hearing had concluded at midnight on July 8. They were more shocked to hear that few other social activists submitted their proposals in the late hours of July 8.
Reportedly, hundreds of speakers had left the venue on Thursday citing that they have to reach back home and that no food arrangements were in place at the venue.
It was witnessed that at around 7 to 7.30 pm few more speakers reached the venue and proceeded with their submissions. The speakers who submitted their arguments included MLA Aleixo Reginald Lourenco, Fr Bolmax Pereira, Olencio Simoes, Captain Viriato Fernandes, Dr Ashish Kamat, Daya Pagi, Royla Fernandes, Dominic Noronha, and others.

A group led by Abhijit also alleged that all of them are hand in gloves with the government to finalise the CZM plan.
“Olencio Simoes had accompanied us when all had left the venue, then how come he returned at night and submitted his submissions?” questioned one of the group members.
They even alleged that other group members are fooling and misguiding them on social issues and it has been proven at the time of the public hearing for CZMP held at Margao.
