PANJIM: The government is considering a proposal to set up ‘special evening fast track courts’ for the quick disposal of tenancy cases in the State. Goa Governor Dr Mridula Sinha has granted her assent to the Agricultural Tenancy Bill 2017 that will now see nearly 3,396 pending tenancy cases returning to the mamlatdars.
The amendment to the Agriculture Tenancy Act was introduced and passed during the monsoon session of the Assembly held in July-August.
Revenue Minister Rohan Khaunte will hold a special meeting with the District Collectors and Mamlatdars on Monday to work out modalities for implementation of the amendment. “I will hold discussions with the Collectors on Monday. Based on the size of the taluka, the necessary infrastructure will have to be worked out,” Khaunte told Herald.
He said that as per the amendment the government has fixed a time limit for disposal of the application within a period of three years from the date of their receipt from the court of Senior Civil Judge.
“Chief Minister has promised of setting up fast track courts and we will work on it,” he said.
“We are also considering setting up evening fast track courts to ensure speedy disposal of the cases,” the Minister said, adding that government will ensure that all the cases are cleared within the given time period.
Khaunte assured that within a month, the infrastructure would be put in place to transfer the cases from the civil courts to mamlatdars, who will start the process of disposing those cases.
As per information provided by the Minister in the House around 3,396 cases will be transferred back to the mamlatdars.
The amendment has also proposed constituting an agriculture land tribunal consisting of not more than three members as an appellate authority.
Members will not be below the rank of mamlatdar.
The collector is also appellate authority according to amendment.
