Special gram sabha held at Moira on water harvesting

Meeting adopts resolution to restore comunidade wells for drinking and irrigation, build water tanks below Moira hills and repair sluice gates and bhandares

MOIRA: The Moira Panchayat held a special gram sabha to discuss and decide on water harvesting and conservation on Tuesday.
The meeting was chaired by the acting Sarpanch Oswald Cordeiro wherein three resolutions were proposed and approved.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s letter to all the sarpanchas stressing on the need for rain water harvesting and water conservation across the various villages was read out at the meeting.
The gathering discussed various ways of conserving water at the village level.
It was resolved that all the comunidade wells in Moira should be restored for drinking and irrigation. Secondly, the proposal building water tanks below the Moira hills to conserve water for drinking was also approved. It was also decided that the sluice gates and bhandares should be repaired by the government to protect the wells and cultivation from seepage of saline waters from the rivers.
These three resolutions were proposed by Rui Da Gama and seconded by Philip D’Souza. 
The meeting also passed another resolution that all the constructions comprising of flats in Moira should make their own provision to conserve rain water at the building complex itself.
This was proposed by Gomes and seconded by Rui Da Gama.
The acting sarpanch agreed that the panchayat should send letters to all the building complexes in Moira to conserve rain water.
