MARGAO: Curtorim Panchayat and the members of the Biodiversity Heritage Site committee have resolved to request the Goa State Biodiversity Board (GSBB) to include all the springs and Khazan land in the notification as per the proposal, in a special meeting held on Tuesday at Curtorim.
The Panchayat body along with Curtorim MLA Aleixo Reginaldo Lourenco and Zilla Panchayat Member Michelle Rebello have extended their support for the resolution. The panchayat will soon submit a copy of this resolution to the GSBB.
Speaking to the media after the meeting Milagres Rodrigues, Sarpanch of Curtorim Panchayat said, “The issue has been discussed in the special meeting and resolved to request the GSBB to include all the heritage areas as per the first proposal submitted to the authority. Several springs in Curtorim hold heritage importance. This will help to preserve the environment in Curtorim.”
He further said that resolutions taken at the meeting will be submitted to GSBB within one week of time.
“I extend my full support to whatever decision has been taken in the meeting so that the heritage of Curtorim is protected and preserved for the future generation to come,” said Rebello.
J Santano Rodrigues, Chairman of Curtorim Biodiversity Board thanked the Panchayat body and ZP members, besides Curtorim MLA for supporting the cause.
“We want the GSBB to rectify the notified plan pertaining to declaring Curtorim Biodiversity Heritage Site by a corrigendum. Villagers want to notify the plan as per the proposal submitted to the authorities,” said Rodrigues
As per the notification published, nearly six lakh square meters of area, mostly lakes and field channels are included in the biodiversity heritage site. Villagers have welcomed the decision but at the same time, they have expressed disappointment for not including khazan lands, springs, and other important landmark areas which were shown in the proposal.
