PANJIM: The State government has decided to call for a special session of the State Legislative Assembly to pass the Goods and Services Tax (GST) Bill, which was passed by Parliament earlier this month.
“The Bill is currently being studied by the Finance Department and they have recommended that we should immediately pass it,” Chief Minister Laxmikant Parsekar told media persons on Tuesday.
“We will call for a special session to pass the Bill soon,” Parsekar added, refusing to state when the session would be called. As per law, 50 per cent of the States have to pass the Bill to make it legislation.
During the recently concluded monsoon session of the State Assembly, the government had welcomed the GST regime in the country claiming that the bill will help the coastal state. “We being a tourism state will be benefitted due to this regime,” Parsekar had told the House.
