PANJIM: Considering the grim employment scenario in Goa and a vast scope for entrepreneurship which maybe hindered due to lack of business knowledge, industry experts have decided to hold a special workshop for budding entrepreneurs, wherein they would be groomed for a successful career in the business of their choice.
This initiative has been floated by Goa Entrepreneurs Mentoring Services (GEMS) trust, a non-profit organization of like-minded people, to excite, encourage and nurture entrepreneurship and entrepreneurs in the State.
Speaking to media persons, GMES managing trustee Rajkumar Kamat said that GEMS had decided to mentor budding entrepreneurs to accelerate the small and medium scale industry’s growth in Goa.
Kamat said that the industry experts believe that the youth today should consider self-employment as an option rather than waiting and struggling to get a job.
“There is enough scope for niche players in every field or segment and what the youth need is change in mindset and right guidance by seasoned and successful entrepreneurs,” he said.
GEMS has planned a two day workshop on September 27-28, at EDC house, as a first step towards mentoring the new entrepreneurs.
At the end of two days, the participants of the workshop would be connected to the mentors who will guide them through the entire process, till the business is set up, Kamat said. “It is found that while financial and general training support is available along with series of government schemes and subsidies to the entrepreneurs, they do not have proper knowledge on how to go ahead with the ideas,” he said.
The organizers quoting the figures said that Goa has 7,500 small and medium industries of which 35 per cent are sick. Of the total industries 2,500 are in the industrial estates.
