PANJIM: In an accident reported at Campal on Sunday morning, 69-year-old Campal resident Maruti Sawant, who sustained serious injuries, succumbed while undergoing treatment at Goa Medical College and Hospital at Bambolim in the afternoon.
The accident occurred at around 6.45 am. Victim’s wife Pushpa Sawant, who was pillion riding on the two-wheeler, who also sustained serious injuries, is undergoing treatment in a hospital.
Twenty-two-year old Jeep driver Amar Aleem Bernard, a Miramar resident, was arrested for driving his vehicle in a rash and negligent manner, informed Panjim PI.
According to PI, the vehicle driver was heading towards Miramar from Panjim when he dashed against victim’s scooter while taking a right turn towards Campal. The impact was such that both victim and his wife sustained grievous injuries.
The PI said Vinit Kurtikar informed the Panjim Police about the accident at 7.51 am over the telephone.
