According to information, the Spice Jet flight (SG 178), which was scheduled to depart from Goa to Delhi at 4.40 pm with 176 passengers, was initially delayed for five hours. At around 9.30, the aircraft was being taken to the runway when the pilot noticed that one of the two engines was not working, and thus, he decided to take the aircraft back to the parking area.
“The passengers were made to disembark from the aircraft and were told by airline officials that alternative arrangements would be made to take them to Delhi. After hours of waiting, eight passengers cancelled their tickets, while others decided to camp at the airport for the next flight,” said a source.
Some upset passengers could be seen complaining that no facilities had been provided to them by the airline, while some allegedly even abused the airline staff.
After hours of waiting, the airline officials informed the stranded passengers that they would be taken to Delhi by another flight, which was expected to land in Goa soon. Finally, at around 1.44 am on Wednesday, the passengers left for Delhi.
“Yes, there was confusion due to an engine breakdown and passengers had to face trouble. However, the same was sorted out by the airline officials. After few hours’ delay, the passengers were taken to Delhi by another Spice Jet aircraft, which had come to Goa from Mumbai late Tuesday evening,” said K S Rao, Director of Airport Authority of India.
Incidentally, this is the second incident of a Spice Jet flight being delayed in as many days.
