Inspector General of Police Sunil Garg told a press conference on Thursday that this step would inculcate confidence in the minds of the people. “We will ask our SDPOs to visit one police station per week and listen to the (grievances of the) complainants (approaching the police stations with different complaints) and solve their problems. To further supervise the functioning, SPs will also visit one police station every week,” the IPS officer, who recently completed inspecting police stations in north Goa district, said.
In another decision, the department has planned streamlining the beat patrolling system. Garg conceded that the system is not being followed rigorously. “All police stations will have beat patrolling system which will be headed by a sub-inspector. They will interact with the community in their respective areas,” he added.
The department has also contemplating setting up ‘area security community’ involving citizens with clean background. With its recent announcement to go online partially, the department says it is certain to accomplish 60 percent of the task under CCTNS project by October-end and that the problems of absence of CCTVs at all police stations will also end in the next few weeks.
North SP Priyanka Kashyap, who was also present at the briefing, has claimed to have increased the rate of detection of thefts including house thefts, this year. The notorious Irani gang members, who were involved in several theft cases registered at Porovirm, Panjim and Ponda, were arrested in recent crackdowns. “Five cases have been solved so far and recoveries made,” she claimed.
