Sr Rane, Mauvin blast new Dabolim terminal; back airport at Mopa

PANJIM: “The new integrated Dabolim airport terminal is one of the worst air terminal I have seen in my life,” Leader of Opposition Pratapsing Rane said on the Floor of the House on Monday while pointing to the flaws, the mismanaged infrastructure and functioning at the new terminal an opinion also seconded by Dabolim MLA Mauvin Godinho.

The duo also made common cause on supporting Mopa.
Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar, was subsequently, quick to assure that a letter would be written to the Central government pointing out the irregularities and other issues pertaining to the functioning of the International airport.
Speaking while moving a cut motion to the demands for grants for airport, Rane, along with Dabolim MLA Mauvin Godinho criticized the government for failure to provide better infrastructure in and around the Dabolim airport.
“The new Dabolim terminal is the worst airport I have seen in my life. One who visits the terminal, would definitely say that it’s completely mismanagement of the airport,” Rane reiterated.
Supporting the cut motion, Congress MLA Mauvin, alleging the involvement of airport officials in the irregularities, demanded that the Central government be requested for inquiry through central bureau of investigation (CBI) into the matter. He pointed out that the airport officials are in connivance with the STC tour and travel operators and provide them taxi business.
“The yellow and black taxi and tourist taxi operators are left without any business as the entire business is captured by STC. This is a big scam. I allege on the floor of the House that the authorities are in connivance with the agency,” Godinho said.
Replying to the same, Parrikar assured to write to the Union government informing about the functioning of the airport and its officials.
“The issues pertaining to Dabolim airport are dealt by Centre and not by the State,” Parrikar clarified.
Godinho, however, like Rane, indirectly extended his support to the Greenfield international airport Mopa, stating that “with more and more tourists expected to come to Goa, the State requires more airports…not just Goa but also India will require more airports in the future”. The Congress leader said that he does not subscribe to the views of the public that with new airport coming up (in Mopa), Dabolim would be shut down.
