VASCO: State Transport Authority (STA) member and Mormugao councilor Vinod Kinlekar has objected to rent-a-car operations at the Dabolim international airport.
Citing that rent-a-car operations are carried out illegally by private vehicles, Kinlekar said that the people especially taxi operators doing business legally suffer losses since they have to pay taxes. He suggested that rent-a-car operations should be carried out systematically from an office and not by the roadside. He demanded action from police and other law enforcing authorities, against illegal rent-a-car operations.
Kinlekar alleged that rent-a-car operators occupy one portion of the parking outside the airport while, private vehicles are also available on rent which is greatly affecting other businesses such as taxi operators. He said that these cars also add to traffic jams during peak hours and demanded that it should be stopped at the Dabolim airport.
