For the betterment of fishermen and fish buyers, stakeholders in the fishing industry and Goan Fishermen have proposed that the Dept of fisheries form a fisheries corporation. With no freezing facilities, fishermen are forced to sell the fish to agents at a cheaper rate, who in turn sell the fish for a higher price to customers, thus, leaving the fishermen with meagre and consumers in tears.
With the formation of a corporation, the agent’s monopoly will be broken since fish can be sold to the corporation and consumers can get fish at a reasonable rate. Fishing societies can be members of the corporation and will be able to generate revenue, upgrade jetties and come up with schemes.
