PANJIM: Kadamba Transport Corporation Ltd (KTCL) shuttle service from various tourist spots to railway stations and airport; and deployment of police forces as well as executive magistrate in each taluka are among the measures taken by the State government to maintain normalcy during the remaining 24-hour nationwide strike called by All India Trade Union.
On day-one on Tuesday, various trade unions from the transport service and banks extended their support to the strike demanding implementation of the 7th central pay to all corporations and the autonomous and corporations bodies, implementation of defined pension scheme to all government employees and transfer the amount which has been deducted from the employees under the new pension scheme, parity in pay scales, regularization of service and payment of minimum wages to the Aanganwadi workers. While the workers under different trade unions held a rally in the capital on Tuesday morning, Secretary (Transport) convened a meeting of police, transport officials and personnel from other related departments to review the situation and make necessary arrangement to tackle it.
In the north district, Collector Levinson Martins has directed to deploy at least one executive magistrate in each taluka, particularly bus stand and traffic areas. In the tourist popular Bardez taluka, the deployment is ordered at Mapusa bus stand and Calangute area too.
“The Sub Divisional Magistrates and Mamlatdars shall coordinate with the respective police officials and ensure smooth flow of traffic in all the talukas. The arrangements for shuttle services from various points to railway stations and airport have been planned by the KTC,” the order states.
With many transport services like private bus operators, rickshaws and taxis to remain off road on Wednesday, the Transport Department has warned unions to not be a nuisance during the strike.
