PANJIM: Latest intelligence inputs warn of the suspected movement of armed terrorists moving in a car aiming to target Goa, Mumbai or Delhi.
Police sources said that Goa Police on Monday received an alert from intelligence agencies that three Pakistani terrorists, along with a Kashmiri handler, were spotted in a grey Swift Dzire car that was hijacked from the security forces.
“We received intelligence inputs about their presence in the Capital (New Delhi). Their prime target is said to be Goa, Mumbai or New Delhi. Our security is already heightened,” a senior officer in Goa said.
According to inputs disseminated to the police and other security agencies in different states, the four persons are believed to be heavily armed and in possession of a suicide belt. “The movement is from Kashmir to New Delhi,” he added.
This is the third terror threat input received by Goa security agencies this year. The State has already received two serious ISIS threats with intelligence inputs revealing that the tourist destination along with Rajasthan topped the list of Islamic State’s (IS) targets in India. Former head of ISIS India Muddabbir Mushtaq Sheikh had recently confessed they had planned to explode bombs in Goa wherein foreigners would be the main target.
Meanwhile, the State held a coastal security meeting on Tuesday to plan the Sagar Kavach exercise, tentatively scheduled in the second week of April. The meeting chaired by acting Chief Secretary R K Srivastav had representatives from the coastal security police, North Collectorate, Indian Navy, Coast Guard and other security agencies chalking out the coordination exercise.
Less than a week ago, speaking at his farewell function, T N Mohan who relinquished office as Goa Director General of Police, had said that the State is ill equipped to fight terrorism.
