PANJIM: The State recorded another high of new COVID-19 cases while the number of infections continues to climb across several places.

On Friday, 196 positive cases were recorded – second highest merely two days after a massive 198 cases were reported on July 15.
The Health Bulletin on the daily status of COVID-19 situation in the State also mentions about 129 recoveries on a single day, on Friday. With this, the total confirmed cases stand at 3304 while total active cases are 1337 and 1946 recoveries.
As on date, 21 persons have lost their lives to the infection with the latest case being that of a beggar found abandoned at Margao. On being taken to the hospital he was declared dead, his test reports came positive for COVID-19. The ambulance staff and police personnel involved in shifting the patient were soon subjected to COVID-19 test and are quarantined till the results are out.
In the list of cases shared by the Health Department, while cases from Mangor Hill have shown a decline from 69 to 43 during the last two days; however, cases linked to it are still a worrying trend. As per the data, 417 cases are linked to the State’s first containment zone as on Friday, an increase by nearly 19 cases within a day.
The State’s capital is also witnessing an increase in cases. A total of 10 cases have been recorded as on Friday while Porvorim reported 18 cases. Mapusa, Khorlim, Xelpem, Ganganagar, Karaswada and Parra have a combined total of 39 cases. The coastal Pernem taluka also recorded 18 cases whereas St Inez reported its first case on Friday. The St Inez bundh, which comprises around 50 houses, was sealed after the woman tested positive for the virus.
Cases in Zuarinagar have also jumped from 170 to 192 until Friday while Chimbel too witnessed a surge with a total of 124 cases.
