PORVORIM: The State government has submitted a proposal worth Rs 1,640 cr to the Union Power Ministry to revamp the power sector through infrastructure development and modernization, Power Minister Ramakrishna Sudin Dhavalikar informed the House on Monday.

He also informed that post election code, the Department will issue tender for new sub-station at Kundaim and Verna to resolve the power crisis of the industrial sector. He said with cost of electricity material escalating by 30 per cent, the project cost has to be re-estimated.
Minister was corned by GFP MLA Vijai Sardesai who brought to the notice of the House the frequent power outrages for industries and government failure to resolve it. He said that from May 10 to June 6, a total 23 complaints, by different industrial associations, were made raising concerns towards power woes and losses. The industrial bodies claimed that total 684 power cuts were reported from April to June.
Sardesai said that government failed to build the trust among the industrial bodies and also to pay compensation towards the loss incurred by them on account of power failures.
Responding to it, the Minister said that the Department has decided to upgrade power sub-stations in Verna, Kundaim and Saligao-Pilerne, industrial areas.
“The substations will be tendered after August 15 and by December, will see that the work order is issued. We will follow the CPWD manual to issue the tender,” he said adding ‘from next year, you will find lot of changes in the power supply’.
Dhavalikar said that government has submitted Rs 1640 cr proposal to centre, which includes infrastructure upgradation like new substations, underground cabling, new meters, etc.
