Chief Minister Dr Pramod Sawant on Tuesday said the government will formulate a welfare scheme for children orphaned by the COVID-19 pandemic, even as it was yet to identify a single such case in the State.
Sawant said the government will launch a welfare scheme for children, whose both parents have succumbed to COVID-19 infection.

“We want to launch a scheme for children orphaned by COVID-19 pandemic for their safe future. But so far we have not found children who have lost both parents in Goa,” Sawant said, adding that if anybody has information of such children staring at an uncertain future it be brought to the notice of the government.
He added that he has received a letter from BJP national president J P Nadda asking him to prepare a welfare scheme on May 30, when Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s government completes seven years in power. The day also coincides with the Goa Statehood Day.
Last week, Nadda had written to chief ministers of 12 BJP-governed States asking them not to hold any event to mark the anniversary of completion of seven years of the Modi-led NDA government due to circumstances caused by the pandemic but instead prepare a programme for children orphaned by the COVID-19 pandemic, since providing such children every support for their safe future is also a social responsibility.
