MARGAO: Despite the attempts to appeal to people not to panic over the lockdown, there were crowds at the markets which included fair price shops, super market stores.
The panic buying resulted in traffic jams in various areas of Margao and Fatorda.
The crowd at the Fatorda SPGDA retail market was so big that the vendors stated that by Thursday evening, stocks of chicken and fish had finished in Margao. The Aquem Fair Price shop saw at least 100 people standing outside for stocking ration without maintaining social distancing. There were similar crowds outside super markets too.
“As people bought extra stocks, many other people failed to get their requirement of essential commodities, “said Kavita Tari, Margao resident.
The traffic jams also meant many commuters got delayed for a long time on the roads and reached late to their respective destinations.
