PANJIM: The Shiv Sena on Thursday demanded that the State government stop issuing new excise licences to help liquor vendors affected by the Supreme Court order to relocate.
Addressing media persons, Shiv Sena spokesperson Rajesh Gaonkar said, “The Goa government should have acted against liquor vendors years ago rather than waiting for the Supreme Court order. We demand that the government stop issuing new excise licences and instead allow affected liquor traders to shift to other places beyond the banned area.”
He added, “If new licences aren’t issued for a year, the market will not be saturated and the affected vendor will get an opportunity to re-establish. The moratorium on new licences can be lifted after a year.”
Shiv Sena also demanded a ban on cow slaughter in Goa. “It is an absolutely misleading statement that beef is a part of our food habit. We have no objection to people eating beef but the party demands that there should be ban on butchering cows in the State and the meat can be imported from outside the State,” he added.
