PANJIM: The Goa Government continues to drag its feet over the appointment of Chairman and Member Secretary of the Goa State Pollution Control Board (GSPCB), seven months after the National Green Tribunal (NGT) issued an order making special knowledge or practical experience in environment protection studies mandatory for both posts.
It is learnt that the government is likely to re-advertise the posts seeking applications, after seven names – four for Member Secretary and three for Chairman – shortlisted do not meet the requirements.
Following the NGT order in August, last year, making mandatory special knowledge or practical experience in environment protection studies for the posts of SPCBs, GSPCB had invited applications for both posts in November 2016 after drafting special recruitment rules.
“Before the previous government could finalise the names for the posts, the State went into election mood following the code of conduct that came into force in January,” a senior official said, adding that the file would now be placed before the new government. The Environment portfolio is currently with Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar.
The official said it is likely that the government will re-advertise the posts, as the shortlisted candidates do not meet the norms set by NGT. The selection committee for the post of Chairman had shortlisted Jayvant Priolkar, Ganesh Shetgaonkar and Navnath Khandeparkar from Margao.
The committee had shortlisted four names for the post of MS –Pradip Sarmokadam, Dr Fraddry D’Souza, Navnath Khandeparkar from Margao and Mahesh Dessai.
