CANACONA: Residents from Canacona taluka are recently complaining of a substantial increase in the number of stray dogs freely roaming on the streets and residential localities creating nuisance and posing danger to everyone around.
It is said that the dog is man’s best friend but the way so many stray dogs left to fend for themselves in the commercial town in Canacona tells a different story altogether as this free ranging canines create nuisance all around the streets and residential areas not only at Chaudi town but even in villages.
Newton Carvalho who resides little beyond Chaudi says, “packs of vicious dogs are often seen on the streets and close to residential areas of Chaudi roaming aimlessly, scavenging food and following female dogs on heat. This stray dogs are found excreting waste everywhere seriously posing health hazard; most of these dogs have not been vaccinated against diseases like rabies.”
Of late the stray dog menace has resulted in outcry from local residents as these seemingly unnoticed large population of dogs roam the streets as well as residential areas during day and night howling and causing all sorts of nuisance near their houses due to which the locals have appealed to the authorities to take quick action on the stray dog menace before it goes out of control.
