PERNEM: The street lights installed with much fanfare by spending Rs 5 crore along the stretch of road leading to the recently beautified Morjim Khind project are non-functional for the last few days.
Locals have demanded that the street lights be immediately repaired as the area has plunged into darkness inconveniencing motorists, tourists and pedestrians.
The beautification project has yoga centre, food court, stalls, sitting arrangement, mini hall and special zone for the elderly and
attracts thousands of local, national and international tourists especially in the evenings.
Locals have now hit out at both the Electricity department as well as the Tourism department for neglecting the touristic spot.
Albert Fernandes, a local said that the lights are non functional since the last few days and called on the local MLA Jit Arolkar to use his good offices and brighten up the place immediatly.
A local on the condition of anonymity said that few street lights near the Chopdem beautification project shine bright even during the day but the ones along the Khind road stand neglected.
