MARGAO: Power Minister Nilesh Cabral has informed that he has short closed the tender for streetlight maintenance and also that the streetlight maintenance policy would be in place, soon.

“I am working on the streetlights maintenance policy since one year and four months. Three companies had taken the tender of streetlight maintenance. We have short closed the tender worth Rs 270 crore. The contract is being short closed and Rs 25 crore has been paid and the remaining Rs 106 crore will be paid to short close the tender,” Cabral said.
“Maintaining the streetlights by ourselves will cost only Rs 160 crore,” he said.
He informed that the streetlight policy has been acknowledged by 120 panchayats.
Cabral also informed that he has changed the policy of clearing the scrap in the department. “Scrap is lying all over Goa. We have changed the policy and old scrap material will have to be brought and centrally auctioned. The Margao division disposed of scrap worth Rs 10 crore,” Cabral said.
Meanwhile, Cabral distributed tools and safety equipment to the line staff attached to the Margao power house on Thursday. He has advised the workers to use the safety equipment regularly.
“Almost 4389 kits have been procured. Separate tenders were floated for procurement of the entire kit. The process of tenders is cumbersome one year two months for the process has been completed and distribution is done,” he said.
Engineer Santosh Lolienkar said, “Today we have undertaken the sample distribution of safety wear and tools. They have been handpicked by the Power Minister by keeping in mind the safety of the staff. Function of stores had come to stand still earlier, but after the intervention of the Power Minister 90% of material is available in stores now.”
