PANJIM: Several lifeguards, on Monday, skipped their duty to join the strike against the government for having failed to fulfill their long pending demands such as absorbing their service under the Goa Tourism Development Corporation.
Leader of Opposition Digambar Kamat, who later met the lifeguards at Azad Maidan, here, has urged the former chief minister to resolve their issues.
“The hardworking Goan lifeguards are once again protesting at Azad Maidan as the government failed to keep up with its commitment to give justice to them. I once again urge immediate intervention of the Chief Minister to resolve their long pending demands,” Kamat said.
He also expressed his solidarity to the agitating lifeguards stating that the government should be sensitive towards their issues.
“Beach safety and lifeguarding service is the most essential service in a tourist destination like Goa. We have seen many persons losing life due to drowning in the months when these lifeguards went on strike. The government should be sensitive towards lifeguards and their demands. The local lifeguards have every right to ask for support from the government. I will keep on raising this issue and will stand with the lifeguards and will ensure that they get justice,” he said.
