GRES which is currently in the process of shifting employees to the Human Resources Development Corporation (HRDC), plans on shutting the society entirely but only after paying pending salaries.
Society members demanded that their salaries and arrears which they claim they haven’t received in months be paid. “We’ve still got many departments that haven’t paid us yet. Therefore we are waiting for those payments and then gradually dissolve the society itself once the salaries are paid,” Dr Salkar said.
Salkar met with the employees who have been on strike since January this year. He also said he would write to the chief minister asking for an appointment and along with a delegate from the union, society and corporation would talk on the issue and how best to solve it.
Union members complained that the society has in its possession over Rs 2 crore. Salkar, however, clarified, those were the pending amounts that departments are yet to pay to the society.
“We don’t receive any grants from the government but based on the bills we submit, we receive the money,” he said, adding that departments had failed to submit their bills thus causing the failure in payment of salaries.
Of the many employed with the society, 270 were already absorbed into the corporation last year after their physical tests were completed. The second batch of 250 to 300 personnel employed as security guards and caretakers, including 41 women are currently under training, Salkar said.
