students from different groups have come together to form a ‘Students Solidarity Forum’ which will be a common platform to address their issues.
The decision to form a State-level committee comprising representatives from various politically-affiliated students’ groups and wings was taken at a students’ leaders meet called by the Students Islamic Organization (SIO) Goa on Wednesday.
The students, while condemning police atrocities on JNU students, also opposed anti-national slogans at the university and a separate protest that was held at HCU in support of terrorist Afzal Guru.
“There is a deliberate attempt to crush and silence the very nature and fundamental instinct of students,” SIO Goa President Akbar Khan told the gathering. The student leaders also called upon other concerned wings to join hands with the forum against ‘oppression and suppression’.
“Anti national slogans and activities should definitely be condemned and legal action taken, but students cannot be subjected to brutality. What happened at JNU after the controversial event held by the students could have been averted if the university investigated the matter first. Police action should have followed thereafter,” another student member opined.
