MAPUSA:  Students from Bardez and other parts of the State held a peaceful protest against global climate change at the Mapusa Taxi Stand on Friday. Called the ‘#ClimateStrike Goa, This protest was organised by Ian Pereira and was supported by like-minded people around the State. During the protests, the protesters held placards, signboards that had slogans like ‘Mass action To Avoid Mass Extinction, ‘The Temperature Is Rising So Are We’, ‘Amchem Beaches, Amkam Zai’ and more.
“The main motive of the strike is to convince the government to take action against climate change and for like-minded people, students, youth etc to fight against climate change for a better future. Many bad things are leading to climate change and this strike, which is happening globally is an opportunity for young people to raise their voice,” said Ian, a 12 grade student. He along with his schoolmates, friends and others carried out the protest.
Ian added that a change of lifestyle is the need of the hour. He further stated that climate change is an urgent crisis, which has to be tackled by switching from plastic use to bio-degradable products, making use of solar energy and other such initiatives.
“Our oceans are polluted. Our climate is dying. Our glaciers are melting, “he added, while talking about the #Fridaysforfuture protest in Goa.
