While uniforms and raincoats to nearly 14,000 students of classes I and III, in the government primary schools, will be given by June-end.
Education Director G P Bhat assured that government primary students will not suffer any delay this year. “Each student will get one set of two 200 pages and two 100 pages notebooks on the school re-opening day. Our officials are on their toes to ensure there is no delay in service,” he said speaking to Herald.
Before the academic year 2014-15 wrapped up in March, the department had already invited bids for distribution of around 55,000 notebooks for students in the coming year. Even though the bidder is finalized, officials are still working out the estimate cost, which in 2014-15 came to Rs 60 for each set of four notebooks.
The department had last year distributed over 52,000 notebooks to the students across the State.
Meanwhile, the Goa Khadi and Village Industries Board, which has been sourced by the government to supply uniforms for primary students of Class I and III, had recently issued tenders for 14,000-odd uniforms.
“The board will select the quality of fabric for stitching uniforms. This will take some time but we are certain that students will get uniforms by June-end,” an official said. Similarly, these students will also be delivered raincoats within the stipulated time frame decided by the department.
