Students weigh higher studies options at Education expo in city

Good response to education expo by the youth of the State

PANJIM: The third Education Expo presented by the Herald Group at the Kala Academy was inaugurated Saturday by Rajesh Patil, Associate Professor of Surgery, Goa Medical College and was attended by large crowds. Boys and girls, many waiting for their results, were present at the expo trying to gain some perspective of the options available.
The personnel at G One Education a company based in Mumbai and Goa felt the expo was the right place to meet young Goans who were interested in studying abroad. Francisca Monteiro who is based in Goa said the company had sent eight students to New Zealand last year for higher studies. Students looking to focus on the sciences could look at New Zealand, a beautiful country and more importantly they could also settle down in that country.
Suryadatta Group of Institutes based in Pune had 8 to 10 Goan students studying with them and were looking to attract even more students from the State. Manjari Kulkarni said Goan students were focused on professional courses like hotel management and fashion design and she expressed her confidence in more students from the State coming over in the years to come.
The first computer education institute, Libra Computers, which started in 1992 hopes to attract more students and provide them with information of the courses that are available.
Sunetra Rao a student who is waiting for her results felt the expo was a great idea as it helped people her age to learn of the various options present and what could be achieved if a certain path was taken.
Alliance University present at the expo for the first time decided to come because of the several inquiries it received from Goa. They were looking forward to a good response.
The Institute of Management Education and Research Belgaum has 5 to 6 students on campus and are looking to the expo to enhance the number.
The V M Salgaocar Institute, one of the State’s premier institutions focused on the hospitality industry, has a batch of 16 of which 14 are students from the State. Sherlaine Viegas HR officer hoped the good response would continue.
Bradford Aviation based in Bengaluru hopes the expo will help them increase their exposure amongst the youth of Goa and given that at present they had two studying with them, Lenny Bernard hoped many more would come on board. There were, he said, a lot of queries.
Another institute very popular with Goans, the Goa College of hospitality and Culinary Education, has a very high percentage of Goan students with a decent representation from Karnataka, Kerala, Maharashtra and Delhi. The expo, the representative hoped, would help maintain the high percentage of Goans in the institute.
Rupal Rautdesai of the Symbiosis Law School Pune said they were receiving excellent response though as a Goan she felt it was disconcerting to learn that the awareness of the options available was very poor amongst both students and parents. She said she was looking forward to the crowds that would come through the gates on Sunday.
The Expo will be commence at 10 am and will end at 7.30 pm.
