PANJIM: In a startling revelation on the floor of the House on the concluding day of the monsoon session of the Goa Assembly, a cabinet minister confessed to lobbying with a few individuals to dethrone the then president of Goa Cricket Association (GCA) Francisco Sardinha to pave way for the now-ex-Congressman Dayanand Narvekar in 2001.
PWD Minister Ramkrishna ‘Sudin’ Dhavalikar expressed regret that he supported Narvekar at the time when the latter was allegedly involved in the fake ticket scam that rocked the 2001 India-Australia cricket match at Fatorda stadium.
“To ensure that Narvekar wins the GCA President’s chair, I along with Pankaj Joshi, Dr Shekhar Salkar and Dattaraj Salgaocar threw out Sardinha,” he said during a discussion on a calling attention motion moved by BJP MLA Dr Pramod Sawant in the cricket
gate scam.
