Call it as most inhuman or otherwise, these migrant construction labourers engaged for razing down a roadside wall at Benaulim have made a Sulabh toilet their second home.
Indeed, strange it may seem, but true, a sulabh toilet block at Benaulim village is being used as a makeshift accommodation by the construction labourers. Since the last one week, as many as three labourers have been putting up inside the toilet block as instructed by their supervisor.
A visit to the toilet block has revealed that the premises have been converted into a kitchen cum bedroom by the labourers. Absence of power supply has not deterred these workers to opt out for better accommodation and they have no knowledge to whom the premises belongs to.
When Herald contacted a Sulabh official, he revealed that the toilet was shut down some months ago for want of users. He said the toilet was built for the Tourism Department and has not knowledge whether the premises is being used for accommodation.
The official pointed out that he would check up with the ground reality in a day or two, whether the toilet premises is occupied by sulabh workers or construction workers engaged by the Tourism department.
