A large number of people from all over the State witnessed the traditional Sangodd Festival on the banks of Candolim River at Orda, to mark the feasts of St Peter and St Paul, who are regarded as the patron saints of the fishing community.
The traditional Sangodd Festival began at about 3 pm with prayers at the Chapel of Holy Cross.
The festival then took the centre stage on the banks of the Candolim River, where a decorative stage depicting a Chapel was put up on some boats along the riverbank. The stage then moves across a few locations along the river, where artistes perform in front of the revelers, who line up in large numbers by the riverbank.
Artistes like Bab Andrew, T Briton, Succoro de Santa Cruz along with his daughter Sonia entertained the large crowd who had come to witness the traditional Sangodd. Local artistes who entertained the large crowd included Hazel, Joslyny, Pele de Orda, Gilbert and Fermino Fernandes. Musicians led by Xavier de Paklo led from the front and provided entertaining tunes.
A few people from Calangute and surrounding areas arrived in canoes for the traditional Sangodd. Political heavyweights who attended the Sangodd included Calangute MLA Agnelo Fernandes and Panch Fermino Fernandes.
Earlier, prayers were offered in honour of the ancestors who passed away and who were in forefront in organizing the Sangodd Festival. Damian de Orda compered the Sangodd programme.
