The meeting was attended by members from MSPL Ltd, Associated Soapstone Distributing Co, Essel Mining & Industries Ltd, Hindustan Zinc Ltd and ACC Ltd.
Calling it a balance between economy and social issues, one speaker from Tata Steel, described the importance of sustainable mining.
Meda Venkatiah from MAPL on the other hand dwelt on management of mined ore and its judicious use. “The importance of mining today is unquestionable. But it may tend to have a negative impact on the environment and ecology. Judicious use of ore is extremely important,” he said, adding that corporate social responsibilities also played a role in building communities.
