VALPOI: All the eight bar owners from Surla on Friday submitted a memorandum to the Sattari Mamlatdar requesting him not to shut down their liquor outlets as they are the only source of income on which their families depend on.
According to Mamlatdar Dashrath Gawas, the bar owners have not been following the guidelines issued to them; throwing garbage in wildlife sanctuary; have no parking place or toilet facilities for the customers and not closing the bars on time. Therefore, a proposal was moved to shut down the bars in the village.
However, bar owner Ashok Goankar said that the bar owners have given an undertaking to the mamlatdar to follow the guidelines and provide their customers with the required facilities. Goankar even requested deputation of police personnel to check whether the bar owners are following the guidelines or not.
Meanwhile, Gawas informed that he has convened a meeting of bars owners from Surla on July 19 in his chamber, which would be attended by Valpoi Police Inspector Shivram Vaigankar, Excise Inspector and Range Forest officer. “The meeting will sort out all the problems of the villagers and liquor bars owners,” he said.
