Temple thefts in the state have become quite common and the police have now sought the help of the Devasthan committees to keep a check on these robberies.
It may be recalled that the Bicholim PI, Narayan Chimulkar, recently held a meeting with Devasthan committees and guided them on the precautionary measures to be taken in the temple premises. About 55 Devasthan committee members attended the meeting.
During the meeting PI Chimulkar instructed the Devasthan committee members to install CCTV cameras with at least 30 days storage capacity at all the access points so as to bring the whole place of worship under surveillance.
“The robbers become successful as there are no proper security measures installed in the temple. Temples in the state have failed to adhere to the police advisory on security,” Chimulkar said. “If all the security measures are adopted it would avoid thefts and even if robberies are committed it would help the police to nab the culprits,” the PI added.
He also instructed temple authorities to employ adequate number of security personnel from a registered security agency for proper checks and guarding of place of worship with a torch, lathi and a register. He also instructed that proper verification of the security guard and other employees is also necessary by following a proper procedure.
“Their antecedents must be verified through police. Their photos and other personal details should be kept on record and copies of the same may be provided to the police. Likewise, the verification of other employees should also be carried out through the local police station by filling in the employee verification forms.” he stated.
It was also instructed that all gold and silver ornaments and valuables should be kept in a bank locker.
