PANJIM: Panjim police grilled Casino Pride MD Shrinivas Naik for about an hour on Friday in connection with the investigation into the murder of cricket bookie Lakhpat Jain. He appeared before PI Siddhant Shirodkar for questioning as the police attempt to unearth more leads to nail those involved in the murder.
The police may also subject suspect Vibhor Khanna to a polygraph test. The affidavit opposing Khanna’s bail plea before the Sessions Court mentions that Khanna would be required to undergo a lie detector test, as he has not been cooperating with the investigation.
“The two women co-suspects are still at large. Khanna is aware of many facts related to the case but has not been cooperating. He will be subjected to a lie detector test,” a police official said. In jail for over a month, Khanna recently applied for bail, which has been opposed by Panjim police.
“Just one co-suspect Anuradha Kapoor has been identified. She is a proclaimed offender in a property-related offense registered at Greater Kailash police station. We have evidence of the trio’s visits to offshore casinos in Goa and familiarity with Jain,” the officer said.
Panjim police had zeroed in on three suspects, all of whom were last seen with Jain walking out of the offshore casino in April.
The Panjim police had converted the unnatural death into a homicide case based on circumstantial evidence collected during the investigation. The Ahmednagar native’s family had demanded a murder probe even as the post mortem ruled out injuries to his body. The cause of death is reserved pending a chemical analysis report. A case has been registered under sections 302 (murder) 201 (destruction of evidence) and 390 (robbery) of IPC.
