Suspected coronavirus patient tests negative

Will be discharged soon; Five other travellers at home in quarantine being monitored

PANJIM: The person who was placed in quarantine at Goa Medical College and Hospital (GMC) for suspected coronavirus has tested negative. 
The man, who had arrived in Goa from China, via Delhi, was kept in the GMC isolation ward for the last three-days, as he was suffering from a cold and sore throat. 
GMC Dean Dr Shivanand Bandekar told media persons that the person tested negative for the virus and would be discharged shortly. The patient is a foreigner who had arrived in Goa after visiting China, and had complained of a sore throat, he said.
“We have received the report from the Pune-based laboratory and his sample has tested negative. As per World Health Organisation guidelines, he can now be discharged from the ward,” Bandekar said.
Another five travellers are under surveillance for coronavirus, however, they are at home in quarantine and are being monitored daily. 
Meanwhile, thermal scanning began at Dabolim International Airport on Thursday. A health help desk has also been set up at the airport. 
An advisory on the virus to the hotel industry has been released by Tourism Department asking them to be vigilant and report any suspect case to the Health Department.
