SVM slams Parsekar’s statements on SEZ issue

Alleges govt, SEZ developers trying to settle the matter out of court

MARGAO: SEZ Virodhi Manch (SWM) has criticised the Chief Minister’s recent statements on the SEZ issue and termed the same as “deplorable”. It has also slammed Parsekar for giving a second thought to the demands of Goans, who want the SEZ land to be returned.
SVM has alleged that the government and SEZ developers were trying to settle the matter out of court, while the petitioners before the High Court have also filed appeals in the Supreme Court praying for accountability from the persons involved in the SEZ land allotment and for the land to be returned to the original owners. The appeals are yet to be decided.
At a media briefing on Wednesday, SVM demanded that the government allow the appeals filed by the SEZ developers and the people of affected villages in the SC to be decided on merits.
SVM recalled that the BJP was screaming itself hoarse when the lands were given to SEZ developers by the Congress govt and demanding that the lands be taken back. SVM stated that the BJP had now taken yet another U-turn by accepting a proposal to give away 30 percent of the lands to SEZ developers.
SVM also observed that the government is in a hurry to take over 70 percent of the lands, which is almost 28 lakh sq mts out of approximately 40 lakh sq mts through an out-of-court settlement.
