PANJIM: The total number of swine flu cases in Goa has touched 24, with eight more persons testing positive for the H1N1 virus.
A senior Directorate of Health Services official confirmed that of the total 25 samples of suspected swine flu cases sent to the National Disease Control Centre (NDCC), New Delhi, last week, eight have tested positive for the disease. A total of 94 samples had been sent for testing from Goa this year.
Goa recorded its first swine flu death this year on February 2, when a 45-year-old male from South Goa developed complications caused by diabetes. The State has all the treatment facilities for the disease with 100 beds reserved for swine flu patients, including 50 beds at the Goa Medical College and Hospital, authorities claim.
As reported earlier, most of those who tested positive had travelled outside the State, and there are no home grown cases of swine flu.
The Health Department has already issued an advisory which includes covering one’s mouth and nose with a handkerchief or tissue while coughing or sneezing, washing hands frequently with soap and water before and after touching one’s nose, eyes or mouth, avoiding crowded places, drinking plenty of water and getting adequate sleep of at least eight hours.
