PANJIM: The Taleigao gram sabha on Sunday resolved to urge the State government to stop imports and exports of fish while also demanding the Food and Drugs Administration (FDA) or the Municipality to set up a counter in the Panjim market to carry out regular checks.
Gram sabha member Xavier Almeida said, “Export should be banned and Fisheries department should introduce counters to sell fresh fish at affordable rates. Also rotten fish should not be allowed to sell and there should be a check by authorities.”
He said, “At the moment there is no control on price and the hygiene. Also the Food and Drugs Administration (FDA) or the Municipality should set up a counter in the Panjim market in a bid to carry our regular checks.”
The meeting was attended by many villagers while the above was proposed by Xavier Almeida and was seconded by Angelo Silvera.
Further the gram sabha also resolved requesting Agriculture department to set up a counter in Tonca office to quickly handle agricultural schemes related procedures, which will greatly help the farmers of Taleigao, Caranzalem and St Cruz.
Other issues discussed at the meeting was that an inspection should be carried out for all technical aspects of the Models Legacy new wing sewage treatment plant (STP) before giving occupancy.
However, it was resolved to write to Health department as some house owners in Cardoz Vaddo had rented their rooms to lot of migrants without providing toilet facilities these migrants defecate in the open and create a huge nuisance and pollution.
Sarpanch Janu Rosario also assured the residents of Eugene Morod that stop work order for mobile tower coming up in an under construction building would be issued on Monday.
MLA Jennifer Monserrate, who attended the gram sabha, said she was following up the STP project; she informed that some builders were releasing untreated sewage in the fields.
