PANJIM: Taleigao Village Panchayat elections have been postponed to April 27 with counting on April 28.
Forty six candidates are left in the fray to slug it out for the 11 wards of the Taleigao panchayat after last date for withdrawals ended, officials said.
A total of 66 nominations had been found valid after scrutiny by the Tiswadi Mamlatdar and the returning officer Madhu Narvekar.
The panchayat which has traditionally been the stronghold of St Cruz MLA Atanasio Babush Monserrate. But this time around he could face competition given that this wife Jennifer Monserrate who contested from Taleigao constituency scrapped through with a narrow margin against the BJP candidate.
Last time the Babush backed panel had swept the panchayat polls.
A total of 106 nominations had been filed for the elections.
