PORVORIM: Congress spokesman Sudip Tamhankar was on Wednesday evening arrested on charges of abusing and insulting the modesty of the Under Secretary (Law) at the Secretariat Office in Porvorim.
Porvorim Police picked up Tamhankar at his residence at Ribandar at about 4 pm and after interrogation arrested him at 5 pm under Sections 186, 509, 353 and 380 of Indian Penal Code.
Police said Tamhankar has been referred to Goa Medical College Hospital at Bambolim for medical examination. Police Inspector Shriram Vaiganker is investigating the case.
It may be recalled that Under Secretary Vasanti Parvatkar had filed a complaint with Porvorim Police on October 26 stating that Tamhankar came into her office and had abused her and staff, thereby insulting her modesty.
Parvatkar had also claimed that Tamhankar used criminal force against her staff to deter them from discharging their lawful duties as public servants and took away photocopies of official documents without permission of the authority, thereby committing theft.
