CANACONA: Canacona Police on Monday arrested a Tamil Nadu resident for allegedly possessing of a dry green leafy substance suspected to be ganja worth Rs 3.68 lakh at Ovrem in Palolem.
Based on the credible information, PI Gawas said they laid a trap and arrested 35-year-old Kalicharan Krishnan for possessing the substance suspected to be ganja near a bakery at Ovrem, Palolem at 5 am.
The accused has been arrested under Sections 20(b)(ii)(B) of NDPS Act 1985, he said.
A police team led by PI Pravin Gawas consisting of PSIs Dhiraj Devidas and Sudesh Desai and constable Dhanjay Desai laid a trap to nab the accused.
The substance weighing nearly 3.68 kg is worth Rs 3.68 lakh.
This is the largest drugs haul in the jurisdiction of the Canacona Police Station this year, informed PI Gawas. The accused had come to Canacona recently from Tamil Nadu and was residing in Patnem, police informed.
The accused will be produced before District and Sessions court for remand, police informed.
