PANJIM: BJP general secretary Sadanand Shet Tanavade has been elected unopposed as president of the party’s State unit.
On the final day of filing of nominations, only three nominations were received, all from Tanavade, BJP election officer Govind Parvatkar told Herald. He said that since all three nominations are from one person he would present it before the State Council, which will take a decision.
“BJP National observer Avinash Rai Khanna will be in Goa tomorrow and will announce the new president at 11 am, at Gomantak Maratha Samaj hall, Panjim,” Parvatkar said.
Chief Minister Dr Pramod Sawant, Dy CM Manohar (Babu) Ajgaonkar, president Vinay Tendulkar, Ministers Michael Lobo, Milind Naik, Nilesh Cabral, MLAs Babush Monserrate and Nilkanth Halarnkar were present at the filing of nomination.
Others, including Damodar Naik, Narendra Sawaikar, Dilip Parulekar were shortlisted for the post, but Tanavade was the unanimous choice of all the leaders.
