PANJIM: Congress is in an upbeat mood since the visit of All Indian Congress Committee (AICC) General Secretary Priyanka Gandhi to Goa which has enthused party workers in the State.
Within two months, one of the stars of Indian National Party campaigners Priyanka visited the State twice to campaign for the Congress-GFP alliance candidates contesting Assembly polls.
On Monday, the party workers and enthusiastic people jostled for a glimpse as Priyanka campaigned door-to-door at Fontainhas, considered to be a stronghold of Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). They showered rose petals at her cavalcade. Congress has been out of power in Goa for the last decade.
The Monday evening walkabout, dripping into some of the homes in Fontainhas and Mala appears to have given a boost in parts of Tiswadi and Bardez as well as parts of South Goa.
Congress workers chanted slogans coined by team Priyanka in UP as she met young girls and women during her door-to-door campaign. “Ladki hun lad sakti hun (I am a girl and can fight) as she met many women voters at Fontainhas and appealed to them to vote for a change.
In her outreach both in Panjim and in Nuvem, she sought out women especially young girls, and connected with them.
The Priyanka effect is likely to give wind to campaigns in Panjim, Taleigao, Porvorim, Saligao, St Andre and Nuvem, and some other places. On Monday, Priyanka campaigned at two places in Nuvem constituency. Last week Rahul Gandhi campaigned in Mormugao constituency and in Bicholim taluka.
Goa Pradesh Congress Committee (GPCC) Girish Chodankar said that the visit of Priyanka and Rahul Gandhi has enthused party workers and claimed that the people of Goa have also decided to elect Congress candidates and defeat the insensitive BJP.
