Electrical property worth Rs 2 lakh damaged

A loaded gas tanker rammed into an electrical distribution panel and an electrical pole before crashing against the shops near Marliz cake shop in the wee hours of Friday.
The incident is believed to have occurred at around 5.50 am when the tanker jumped the footpath before ramming against the pole and panel. The incident caused destruction of electrical property worth over Rs 2 lakh, sources said.
The incident left the service electrical panel damaged disrupting power supply to the shops and business establishments in the vicinity.
Executive Engineer, Electricity Sunil Wadekar told Herald that work is going on in full swing to restore power supply to the establishments. Power supply to the establishments was restored at around 5 pm after the panel was repaired and charged, Wadekar said.
He pointed out that the electrical distribution panel will be replaced by Sunday.
The Margao police later arrested the tanker driver, Venkatesh (40), native of Chennai under section 279 and 337 of IPC. The accused was later released on bail.
Margao police said the tanker was proceeding to Karwar from Zuari Nagar.
The Margao police are investigating.
