VASCO: United Taximen Union from Vasco opposed the new Goa rent a cab counter at Dabolim Airport citing reason that such private players will ruin business of private taxi owners.
Union members are also upset for not allocating parking space and promises given to them by the politicians.
The union members were furious when they came to know about the rent a cab counter, which was suppose to be open on Saturday, at the airport.
At a press briefing, Union Vice President Sudesh Naik said that there were various rent a cab counters such as GoaMiles and others which are slowly killing their business.
“If such private players start doing business out an out then what should be done by private taxi owners,” he questioned.
United Taximen Union demanded government intervention to stop the opening of new rent a cab counter. Union members said that since past 40 years they are into rent a cab taxi business but they have been deprived of even a parking space at the airport.
Union has showed their faith in all four MLAs from Mormugao taluka, who they feel will back them. President Eknath Palkar, General Secretary Kavita Parab, Treasurer Sanjay Wadkar and other members were present.
