MARGAO: The Telaulim Gram Sabha on Sunday approved two names to be included in the Below Poverty Line (BPL) and discussed two issues that were taken up for discussion under the “Any other Business” as the panchayat had received no correspondence or suggestion in writing from the villagers.
Sarpanch Estevan Goes allowed people to raise matters under “any other business” and two issues were discussed with one empowering the panchayat to revise the house tax in certain cases and the other being improving agriculture in the village.
The villagers pointed out that there were many houses in the village that were renovated and converted into duplex bungalows and yet the owners continued to pay the old tax amounting to few rupees. The panchayat was directed to prepare a list of such renovated houses that are paying house tax at the old rate and revise their tax structure.
To improve agriculture, they resolved to get a drain constructed in the field so that it can be cultivated by draining out water.
