MARGAO: The PWD Highways Division has finally sent the tender of Rs 141 crore of the pending stretch of the Western Bypass road work for approval. However, the confusion over the height of the Naveilm-Sinquetim flyover height remains.
The Executive Engineer of the PWD Highways Division Laxmikant Naik has informed of having sent the tender of the remaining stretch of 2.75 kms stretch of the Western Bypass road for approval. The tender has been estimated at a cost of Rs 141 crore. This includes four underpasses, service roads, and cross-service roads, four lane road tarring.

The work also includes a railway over bridge on the Mungul stretch of 110 mts in length and 15 mts in width.
As far as the Benaulim section of the road, there are nine box channels that have been put in the scope of the tender. These box channels are 12×9 metres in width and have a 15 times bigger discharge of water through it. This has been planned to rest the worries of waterlogging in the areas from which this road passes especially in Benaulim areas.
The tender will be now executed by the MVR Constructions which are involved in the work of Pernem-Mapusa highway work and various other works in the State.
Some villagers of Benaulim have written to the Biodiversity Board regarding the work of the Western Bypass road in Benaulim area.
“The Biodiversity Board has been apprised by the National Highway Divisions that with the present provision there will be no waterlogging in fields,” informed Laxmikant Naik.
Navelim MLA Luizinho Faleiro said that once the bypass road is complete the amount of traffic in the central square of Navelim will reduce.
However, he said that the contractor has probably not heard their demand for increasing the height of the Navelim-Sinquetim flyover.
